I’m a Twitter fiend. I might even (gasp!) love it more than Facebook. So when I found out there was a Twitter hashtag for stepmoms, I jumped on board. I quickly found a blog by a fellow stepmom and was encouraged to jump in to her “stepping up challenge” to be more intentional in my relationship with my stepson.
So here goes nothing …
Day 1: What is one of the best things you can do for your kids?
This answer was easy: PRAY. Pray for your kids and pray with your kids. Now generally, I would have posted a separate blog on this. But then I read a fellow stepmom’s blog and realized I couldn’t say it any better.
So on to day two …
Day 2: Tell me something positive about your kids.
Now, any regular readers of my blog know that there are so many things I love about my stepson and so many things he has taught me. His kind heart, his adventurous and fun loving nature, his curious spirit, his hugs, his giggles and so much more.
Here’s a more specific example …
The last weekend he was here, he made me a birthday card. When he gave it to me, he said, “I know you like writing, so I wrote my name for you.” (Inside my head, all I could think was, don’t start bawling or T and Adam will make fun of you and say, ‘Girls are weird.’) So instead I hugged him. His response? “Katie, I love you. Now can you please let me go?”
But the challenge goes beyond that. So this weekend, I’ll be telling T one thing a day that I love about him. Expect more stories of him attempting to squirm out of a hug.
Stay tuned as I continue down the stepping up challenge. Or join me and become more intentional with your own relationships.
